Australian bred colt ready to take on worlds best!
2008 editorial in 'Performance Horse Yearbook'
Palomino crop-out colt Another Smarty Oak will be the first Little Smarty Oak progeny to be exported from Australia. He will be on his way to U.S.A. a little later in the year and will commence his cutting training as a contender for U.S.A. 2009 NCHA Cutting Futurity. Although he will be considerably younger than all the other horses in the event it is a huge opportunity to display his potential. It also demonstrates the confidence inLittle Smarty Oak himself as a sire in the worlds biggest cutting horse market. Expressions of interest have been received to send Little Smarty Oak himself to U.S.A. but at this stage his hooves will remain firmly planted on Australian soil. Frozen semen is available in U.S.A. and additional shipments will be sent as necessary.
I am please to announce the appointment of Terry Clifford as the American agent for Little Smarty Oak. Terry is a prominent U.S. cutting hose trainer and breeder. I'm sure his knowledge and experience in the American market will prove invaluable.
Little Smarty Oak is really proving to be the sire for all occasions. His foals are proving to exceptionally athletic with cool, calm and inquisitive minds, they are sensible and intelligent and display their sires big hip. Once again coloured paint foals have been produced. Heads will turn when they enter the show pen. A great deal of satisfaction comes from breeding horses that are bred to work which are also capable of standing proud and competitive in the halter classes and western pleasure events. It really doesn't matter what discipline a Smarty foal is destined for, it will have the mind, the conformation and the athletic ability to get the job done while being a quiet and friendly horse to be around.
2008 certainly looks to be a big year with lots of mares unable to be bred last year due to E.I. In some cases mares haven't been bred since 2005 with many mare owners deferred breeding due to the drought in 2006.
At this time there is no intention to limit bookings but obviously as the season progresses this may need to be reviewed. For those breeders who started with Smarty in 2004 this will be the 5th year in a row. Your confidence and support is greatly appreciated.
The introduction of a 20% repeat breeder loyalty discount has proven popular with mare owners who already have Smarty foals on the ground and mares currently in foal. 2007 also saw the introduction of an extended service fee payment plan. Under this agreement breeders were charged an initial payment of the $250.00 with the stallion service contract followed by 10 monthly payments of $100.00 ($75.00 for repeat breeders).
Progeny sales have been very promising with the breeders making some healthy profits on their initial investments. In many cases the new owners are people with a proven track record in the show pen and the confidence of these people in their purchases is most encouraging. It has also been great getting phone calls from people asking where they can purchase a Smarty foal. Being able to introduce potential purchasers to breeders is all part of the service offered. If a breeder can readily sell their Smarty babies for a fair and reasonable price it stands to reason that they will breed Smarty again. Add the repeat breeder discount and the extended payment plan and the whole package becomes even more attractive.
Before selecting a stallion to be the sire of your next champion you should consider Smarty. There may be lots of stallions to choose from but at the end of the day the decision will be simple. No other stallion has as much to offer as Little Smarty Oak.
As always, if I can be of any further assistance or you are unsure of something please do not hesitate to contact me.
Mare Owners return to 'Little Smarty Oak' in 2006:
The 2006 season started out pretty much the same as 2005, with many of the previous years clients returning, along with lots of new clients as well. The drought played a part on the total number of mares that were bred this year, with some breeders deferring until 2007, hoping for a better season. It meant that actual numbers of mares bred were down slightly on 2005, however we are expecting the 2007season to be huge! For some mare owners 2007 will be the fourth successive year of breeding their mares to 'Little Smarty Oak'! What greater recommendation can there be than this?
Mare Owners flock to 'Little Smarty Oak' in 2005:
The 2005 season proved to be huge success for 'Little Smarty Oak', with 47 mares being bred using AI with chilled semen, of which 46 tested positive. The resulting progeny have been very impressive, with all mare owners telling the same story of foals being quiet, kind and sensible with big hips, good legs and exceptional athletic ability. Colours have included palomino, buckskin, red dun, bay, chestnut, palomino paint and a couple of really loud coloured paints.
The photos sent in by mare owners have been great. It is really satisfying to receive these pictures of mares with their foals and speaking with their owners about their future plans. Some of these foals will be cutters, some will be reiners, while campdraft and rodeo, halter and western pleasure are also on the list of prospective careers for his progeny. Regardless of which future direction is taken I am sure they will be successful.
